11th Annual Backpack Giveaway

I hope that you are fully enjoying your summer.  One of our lessons learned as part of the San Bernardino countywide charter process is that it is necessary to increase our level of community activism and legislative advocacy overall but specifically in the Inland Empire portion of the county.  In our efforts to fully integrate ourselves with the San Bernardino County Board of Education and their student related efforts we have an opportunity to participate in a 1,000 backpack giveaway that is taking place this Saturday, August 5, 2017  from  11am to 3pm.  The event is sponsored by the Young Visionaries Youth Leadership Academy and their President/CEO Terrance  Stone. For background,  Terrance Stone  and YVYLA are one of the most highly recognized youth advocacy organizations within the county.  This is one of their flagship events which also receives a lot of community news-based coverage. The local schools are strong promoters of the event as the efforts directly influence their student populations.  YVYLA requested the assistance of 5-10 Excelsior staff members to help stuff the backpacks and support the first come, first served giveaway which serves students ages 5 through 18.  If you plan on attending for any period of time please let me know so that we can properly communicate our intended support.  I plan to arrive at 9 am.  I encourage you to wear an Excelsior shirt if possible.  Thank you.
