Dear Excelsior Families,

Our goal is to ensure that it is perfectly safe to send your child to school. On 9/11/18 our administration was informed that a student athlete on our Victorville campus was diagnosed with viral meningitis. We have no reason to expect that any other campus has been impacted. When health-related issues arise we make every effort to communicate with our parents, work with health professionals and take aggressive steps to sanitize our school sites, work out areas and associated transportation. The San Bernardino County Public Health Safety Department has assured us that the steps we have taken are the most appropriate.

Viral meningitis is the most common type of meningitis, spread through contact with an infected person’s saliva or mucus. The symptoms are sudden onset fever, headache, stiff neck, vomiting, rash or confusion. Generally, no treatment is necessary for contact with individuals with viral meningitis. The virus is exhibited through flu like symptoms and will usually pass within 7-10 days. However, it is always appropriate to seek medical assistance at your discretion.

As part of our response we are sanitizing the campus as well as canceling today’s athletic competitions and practices. We will continue to take every measure to ensure the safety of your students and are working hard to resume our normal, daily school-based operations.

The Victorville campus will be sanitized today, September 11, 2018. We will resume normal school-based operations on Wednesday, September 12, 2018.
